About
Started in 2015
The Poppy Seed Project was started by Heather, mother to two daughters adopted through the Los Angeles County foster care system. Quinn arrived a few weeks before Christmas 2013. Her social worker brought her a small gift during an early visit. The next year, Quinn was still in foster care, and close to adoption — her social worker brought Quinn a thoughtful gift that she loved. Each year that Quinn was in foster care, the holidays were marked by her social worker. As the holidays approached in 2015, Quinn was no longer in foster care, but Heather felt called to stay connected to her social workers. Since 2015, the goal has remained the same: Pay kindness forward and give to kids who will be in foster care during the holidays. There are kids who have had the same social workers for a number of years who now know they can ask for what they want for the holidays because this project exists. Through word of mouth and the generosity of this community, entering our 10th year, nearly 1,000 gifts have been given to kids in Los Angeles County!

The Impact
I cannot thank you enough for the generous gifts, the time, money and effort that you all put in to make the holidays special for our kids. Most of our kids are going through such difficult times, and your gift light up their holidays.
